Can I drive a 7.5 tonne vehicle on a car licence?

It depends on when you passed your test. If you obtained your car licence before 1st January 1997, you’ll have what are known as Grandfather rights, allowing you to drive vehicles up to 7,500kg legally. If you passed after that date, you’ll need to hold a C1 licence.

Can you hire a 7.5 tonne lorry for personal use?
